Stellarium
Stellarium is a app in the osFoundry community catalog. Full Stellarium planetarium (0.22) streamed in your browser via KasmVNC — a real-time photo-realistic sky with 600,000+ stars, deep-sky objects, planets, satellites, and multiple cultural constellation systems. The real native Linux app runs inside the container; your browser is the window. Location, observation log, and downloaded sky cultures persist on the storage volume under /config.

Documentation
# Stellarium
Native Stellarium running inside a streamed KasmVNC desktop.
## Version
Debian Bookworm Stellarium **0.22.2**. Includes the full default star and deep-sky catalogs (~400 MB of textures shipped via `stellarium-data`). Upstream is now 24.x with newer satellite TLEs and rendering improvements, but 0.22 is fully usable for education and casual stargazing.
## Persistence
`/config` is the in-session user's home. Stellarium writes its config, location, observation log, and downloaded sky-cultures / landscapes to `/config/.stellarium/`.
## First launch
Set your **location** (Location window / `F6`) — Stellarium defaults to Paris. Press `Ctrl-S` in the Location window to save it as the default. The toolbar along the bottom shows constellations, atmosphere, ground, etc.
## Performance
Qt + OpenGL. Software GL inside KasmVNC handles the sky fine at the default field of view; very wide-angle panning with atmosphere + landscape + DSO labels all on can feel sluggish — hide the landscape (`G`) or atmosphere (`A`) for a snappier session.
How to use Stellarium in osFoundry
Install Stellarium into your workspace in one click, then fork it in osStudio to customise the prompts, tools, or configuration for your stack. Anyone in your workspace can pick up where you left off.
