Merge
Compare any two branches with a full diff. Approve or request changes inline.
What it is
Merge is osFoundry's branch comparison and code review surface, part of the Code & Build tools. Pick any two branches and it renders the full diff between them: every added, removed, and changed line across every file, not just a summary. Instead of switching to a separate hosting site or a terminal to inspect what a merge would bring in, you read the change where your code, chat, and agents already live.
Review happens inline. As you read the diff you can approve the change or request changes on the specific lines that need work, so feedback lands next to the code it refers to rather than in a detached comment thread. This keeps the decision and the evidence for it in one view: what changed, why it matters, and whether it is ready to merge. Because osFoundry is a desktop, bring-your-own-key workspace, the review runs locally against your repository and the diff stays on your device unless you choose to share it — there is no per-seat fee to add a reviewer and no reseller markup on any model you point at the code.
Merge sits alongside the rest of osFoundry, so the same AI models you connect with your own keys can help read the diff, explain a change, or draft the reasoning behind an approval or a change request. One workspace holds the branches, the diff, the review, and the assistants that help you judge it, rather than spreading that work across a hosting provider, a chat app, and a local editor.
Key capabilities
- Compare any two branches and see the complete diff — every changed line across every file, not a summary
- Approve a change or request changes inline, on the exact lines that need attention
- Review runs on the desktop against your local repository, so the diff can stay on your device
- Bring your own model keys to explain diffs and draft review notes, with no reseller markup
- Branches, diff, review, and AI assistants live in one workspace instead of scattered across tools
Use cases
- Solo developer: compare a feature branch against main to see exactly what a merge would introduce before committing to it
- Reviewer on a small team: read a teammate's diff and request changes inline without paying a per-seat fee on a hosting platform
- Privacy-conscious engineer: review a diff locally on the desktop so proprietary code never leaves the machine during review
Frequently asked questions
Which branches can I compare?
Any two branches in your repository. Merge renders the full diff between the pair you select, showing every added, removed, and changed line across all affected files.
How do I leave feedback on a change?
Inline, as you read the diff. You can approve the change or request changes directly on the relevant lines, so your comments sit next to the code they refer to.
Does my code leave my machine when I review it?
osFoundry is a local-first desktop workspace, so the diff and review run against your local repository and stay on your device unless you choose to share them. Any AI help uses the model keys you bring, with no reseller markup.
