Domains
Buy, attach and route custom domains in seconds. Wildcards and SSL handled.
What it is
Domains is the part of osFoundry that puts a real web address in front of the apps, rooms, and sites you build in your workspace. Instead of leaving something running on a default osFoundry URL, you point your own name at it — buy a fresh domain from inside the app, or attach one you already own by adding the DNS records it shows you. Once the record verifies, requests to that name route to the app you chose. It sits in the Data & Memory area because a domain is part of how your workspace's data and apps are addressed and reached, not a separate hosting product you manage elsewhere.
The setup that usually eats an afternoon is handled for you. SSL/TLS certificates are issued and renewed automatically, so every attached domain serves over HTTPS without you touching a certificate authority or a cron job. Wildcards are supported, which means one entry like *.yourbrand.com can fan out to as many subdomains as you need — one per app, per client, per environment — without registering each one by hand. Routing is a mapping you control: pick which domain (or subdomain) sends traffic to which app or room, and change it later without redeploying.
Because osFoundry is bring-your-own-key and local-first, Domains is about publishing what you choose to publish, on your terms. You decide which apps get a public address and which stay private on your device. Buying through osFoundry adds a domain-registration markup over wholesale cost (roughly 1.4×) rather than a per-seat or per-site subscription, and attaching a domain you already registered anywhere else is always free — you just supply the DNS records.
Key capabilities
- Buy a new custom domain from inside the workspace, or attach one you already own by adding the DNS records shown to you
- Route any domain or subdomain to a specific osFoundry app or room, and re-point it later without a redeploy
- Wildcard support: map *.yourbrand.com once and serve unlimited subdomains without registering each individually
- SSL/TLS certificates are issued and auto-renewed for every attached domain, so all traffic is HTTPS by default
- Attaching a domain from any external registrar is free; buying through osFoundry adds only a ~1.4× registration markup, with no per-seat or per-site fee
Use cases
- Indie builder: ships a client-facing tool built in osFoundry at app.theirbusiness.com instead of a default URL, with HTTPS working on first load
- Agency: attaches *.clients.agency.com and gives each client their own subdomain pointing to a separate room app, all managed from one workspace
- Solo founder: buys a brand-new domain in seconds for a landing page or internal app, skipping a separate registrar and certificate setup entirely
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a domain I already registered somewhere else?
Yes. Attaching an existing domain is free — osFoundry shows you the exact DNS records to add at your current registrar, and routing activates once the record verifies. You keep the domain wherever you bought it.
Do I have to set up SSL certificates myself?
No. Certificates are provisioned and renewed automatically for every attached domain and subdomain, so your apps serve over HTTPS without you configuring a certificate authority or handling renewals.
How do wildcard domains work here?
Add one wildcard entry such as *.yourbrand.com and any subdomain under it can route to an app without being registered one at a time. It's the fast way to give many apps, clients, or environments their own address from a single domain.
