Notes — Text
A modern rich text editor — Markdown, slash commands, code blocks, math, embeds.
What it is
Notes — Text is osFoundry's rich text editor for everyday writing: meeting notes, specs, drafts, runbooks, and documentation. You write in a clean editing surface that speaks Markdown natively, so headings, lists, bold, links, and quotes render as you type, and the underlying document stays portable Markdown rather than a locked proprietary format. A slash command menu lets you insert blocks without leaving the keyboard — pull up a code block, a math expression, a heading, a divider, or an embed by typing "/" and picking from the list.
Because Notes lives inside osFoundry — a bring-your-own-key desktop workspace — your text sits in the same place as your chat, agents, apps, code, and data instead of a separate silo. It is local-first, so notes can stay on your device rather than being routed through a vendor's servers, and there are no per-seat fees for a team to keep its writing in one workspace. Code blocks keep formatting and monospacing intact for snippets and commands, math renders LaTeX-style expressions for anything technical, and embeds let you bring other content into a note so a document can be more than plain prose.
This matters because most note tools force a trade: either a friendly editor that traps your content, or plain Markdown files with no editing help. Notes — Text gives you the modern block-based editing experience while keeping the document as Markdown you own, in a workspace where the same notes are reachable by the AI chat and agents you already run — using your own API keys, with no reseller markup on top.

Frequently asked questions
Does Notes — Text use Markdown, or a proprietary format?
It is a Markdown-native editor. You get a modern block-based writing experience, but the document itself stays Markdown, so your content is portable and not locked into a proprietary format.
Where are my notes stored?
osFoundry is a local-first desktop workspace, so notes can stay on your device rather than being routed through a vendor's servers. They live alongside your chat, agents, code, and data in the same workspace.
What can I insert with slash commands?
Typing "/" opens a menu to insert blocks such as code blocks, math expressions, headings, dividers, and embeds, so you can build a structured document without leaving the keyboard.
