Notes — Whiteboard
Sketch, diagram and connect ideas on an infinite canvas. Shapes, arrows, sticky notes.
What it is
Notes — Whiteboard is the free-form thinking surface inside osFoundry. Instead of a linear document, you get an infinite canvas: pan and zoom without running out of room, drop sticky notes wherever a thought lands, draw shapes to group them, and connect anything with arrows to show how ideas relate. It is the place for the work that does not fit neatly into a text box — mapping a plan, sketching an architecture, clustering research, or laying out a flow before you write a line of it.
Because the whiteboard is part of the osFoundry workspace rather than a separate app, it sits next to your chat, agents, apps, code, and knowledge. You can whiteboard a problem in the same window where you are already talking to a model with your own API key, so a rough sketch and the conversation that shaped it stay in one place. osFoundry is a bring-your-own-key desktop tool, which means your canvases are local-first: the board can live on your device rather than on someone else's server, and there are no per-seat fees for opening one.
Practically, this makes the whiteboard useful for the messy middle of a project. Shapes and sticky notes give you cheap, movable units of thought; arrows turn a pile of notes into a diagram; and the infinite canvas means you never have to stop and reorganize just to make space. When the thinking is done, the board stays as a durable reference alongside the rest of your workspace.
Key capabilities
- Infinite canvas — pan and zoom freely with no fixed page size, so ideas never run out of room
- Sticky notes as movable units of thought you can drop, cluster, and rearrange anywhere on the board
- Shapes to frame and group related ideas, and arrows to connect them into diagrams and flows
- Lives inside the osFoundry workspace, next to your AI chat, agents, apps, code, and knowledge
- Local-first and BYOK — boards can stay on your device, with no per-seat fees to open a canvas
Use cases
- Product planner: map a roadmap as sticky notes, group phases with shapes, and connect dependencies with arrows
- Engineer: sketch a system architecture on the canvas in the same workspace where you are pairing with an AI model
- Researcher: dump findings as notes on an infinite board, then cluster and link them to see the shape of the argument
Frequently asked questions
Where are my whiteboards stored?
osFoundry is a local-first desktop app, so your canvases can live on your own device rather than on a remote server. Nothing about the whiteboard requires uploading your ideas to a third party to use it.
How is this different from a standalone whiteboard app?
The whiteboard is one surface inside the osFoundry workspace, so it sits alongside your AI chat, agents, apps, code, and knowledge instead of in a separate tool. You can sketch in the same window where you are already working with a model using your own API key.
What can I actually put on the canvas?
Sticky notes, shapes, and arrows on an infinite, pan-and-zoom canvas. Use notes for individual ideas, shapes to group or frame them, and arrows to connect ideas into diagrams and flows.
