Translate
Translate any selection on the fly — into 100+ languages, with your BYOK model.
What it is
Translate is an osFoundry utility that turns any text selection into an instant translation. Instead of switching to a browser tab, pasting your text into a web translator, and pasting the result back, you highlight the passage where you are already working and get the translation on the fly. It covers 100+ languages, so it handles everything from the languages you meet in daily correspondence to the less common ones that most tools skip.\n\nWhat makes Translate different is that it runs on your own model. osFoundry is bring-your-own-key, so the translation request goes to whichever AI model you have configured with your own API key — cloud, local, or self-hosted. You pick the quality and cost tradeoff, and you pay the model provider directly with no reseller markup and no per-seat fee. Because osFoundry is a local-first desktop app, when you point Translate at a model running on your own machine, the text you are translating can stay on your device rather than being sent to a third-party service.\n\nTranslate lives inside the same workspace as your chat, agents, apps, code, and knowledge, so it is available wherever you read text rather than being a separate destination you have to go to. That means a foreign-language snippet in a document, a message, or a piece of source material can be translated in context, in the flow of your actual work.
Key capabilities
- Select any text in your workspace and translate it in place, without copy-pasting into a separate translator tab or window
- Translate to and from 100+ languages, covering major world languages and many regional ones in a single interface
- Routes translation through your own BYOK model, so you choose the engine and pay the provider directly with no reseller markup
- Runs on a local-first desktop app, so your text can stay on your device when you point Translate at a local or self-hosted model
- Works across the same workspace you use for chat, agents, apps, code and knowledge, so translation is one keystroke away wherever you are reading
Use cases
- Multilingual professional: highlights a paragraph of foreign-language email or documentation and reads the translation in place without leaving the workspace
- Privacy-conscious researcher: points Translate at a local model so sensitive source text is translated on-device rather than sent to a cloud translator
- Developer or writer: translates code comments, UI strings, or draft copy across 100+ languages in the same app where they are already editing
Frequently asked questions
How many languages can osFoundry Translate handle?
100+ languages. It covers the major world languages plus many regional ones, so you can translate both common and less widely supported languages from the same interface.
Which translation engine does it use, and is there a markup on cost?
Translate uses whichever AI model you connect with your own API key (BYOK). You choose the model — cloud, local, or self-hosted — and pay that provider directly. osFoundry adds no reseller markup and charges no per-seat fee for it.
Can I translate text without sending it to a third-party cloud service?
Yes. osFoundry is a local-first desktop app, so if you configure Translate to use a local or self-hosted model, the selected text can be translated on your own device instead of being sent to an external service.
