# Plain-text Accounting (Web)
A web UI for Beancount, powered by Fava.
## First boot
A minimal `main.beancount` is seeded at `/bean/main.beancount` on first boot with one empty equity-opening transaction so Fava can load. Edit it via the platform's file editor (or any Beancount-aware tool) — Fava picks up changes automatically on save.
## Beancount syntax
Full docs: https://beancount.github.io/docs/. Key concepts:
- Every transaction has at least two postings whose amounts must sum to zero (double-entry).
- Open accounts before posting: `2024-01-01 open Assets:Cash USD`.
- Most Beancount-aware editors auto-complete account names + dates.

Fava has its own light/dark toggle (top-right).
